Japan’s New PM Set to Hold Talks with S. Korean Leader
Takaichi will travel to South Korea later this week to participate in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Japanese media reported.
During the meeting, she plans to express her goal of steadily cultivating “future-oriented” bilateral relations and holding frequent summits through reciprocal visits, following the precedent set by her predecessor, Shigeru Ishiba, the report added.
On her inauguration day, Takaichi described South Korea as an “important neighbor” and emphasized her eagerness to meet with Lee soon.
To date, the South Korean side has not confirmed the potential meeting.
Earlier, South Korea's presidential office noted that consultations are ongoing to schedule Lee’s first summit with Takaichi on the sidelines of the APEC gathering, according to South Korean media.
